Athlete Problems: Athletic Fit vs Slim Fit

Athlete Problems: Athletic Fit vs Slim Fit

March 03, 2017

Ask any male athlete - pro, college, or the guy who is conscious about his fitness - about their experience buying dress shirts and you are guaranteed to receive a similar, frustrated response. Although the wording of this frustration may differ, the overall consensus is the same: off-the-rack dress shirts simply do not accommodate those with an athletic build.

Here is the issue - big brands are churning out dress shirts for the masses, and unfortunately the athletic build does not make up the majority of the male population. These big brands stick to offering two types of fit: “The Standard” and “The Slim.” The Standard dress shirt is one that may fit an athletic male in the upper body but it fails to taper in at the waist. This fit results in a boxy-looking shirt that is extremely baggy at the waist.

The Slim fit is the other common option.  The Slim fit provides that tapered cut through the midsection and waist but comes with little to no room in the upper body. On an athletic build, this results in the dress shirt being uncomfortably tight in the chest, shoulders, and arms. Athletes that wear slim fit shirts often complain about extreme discomfort, buttons popping off, and even their elbows ripping through the dress shirt after only a couple wears.

The Athletic fit dress shirt solves all these problems, providing more room in the upper body with slightly lower arm holes and an extremely tailored waist. Darts in the back of this shirt pull the fabric in, eliminating billowing and any excess fabric when tucked in. This Athletic fit is tailored to be snug fitting, and best to show off the “V” body shape. In addition, we provide 4-way stretch in our shirts so the dress shirt can be worn close-fitting while providing comfort for everyday movements.

Although professional athletes are ideal for this Athletic fit, this should not deter the everyday guy who takes care of his body from wearing these shirts. If a guy has a muscular upper body and his stomach does not hang over his waist, this Athletic fit will be ideal. At the end of the day, clothing is just a canvas for the body, and with a true Athletic fit, these shirts reward those who put in the extra work to take care of their figure.
