About This Program

This is not a traditional retail position. We have a business partner mentality and relationship with our store managers—giving them the support to autonomously run and grow their own business.

Our Manager in Training program is designed for hungry individuals looking for a lifestyle or career change who are eager to run their own business. Ideal candidates have a business-owner mentality and seek managerial and leadership development. Details include:

  • Three to six month program preparing you to step into a retail management position at S&L
  • Relocation stipend where applicable
  • Opportunity for six-figure earning potential with relocation opportunity plus benefits

Important: This program is best suited for those willing to move, travel, and grow a long-term career with State & Liberty. This is a highly selective, mutual investment with the goal of creating a long-term, fruitful career.

Sequence of the M.I.T. Program

Step 1 – Identify if this program is right for you

  • Unhappy or feeling stuck in your current role or situation
  • A people person who enjoys service and sales
  • Scrappy and willing to work hard to grow
  • Flexible and willing to move and travel
  • Eager for a fresh start and a new career path
  • Interested in running and leading your own business

Step 2 – Relocation to a Tier 1 city (3–6 months)

  • Placement in cities such as Boston, Miami, or Manhattan Beach
  • Relocation stipend where applicable
  • Healthcare and benefits available during this period

Step 3 – Training and mentorship

  • Shadow and learn from current managers and retail teams
  • Learn and embody company values and leadership style
  • Gain experience across all aspects of the business
  • Develop into a high-performing sales professional
  • Build managerial and leadership skills

Step 4 – Program evaluation

  • Highly selective and demanding program
  • End-of-program evaluation to determine next role based on performance and company needs

Step 5 – Placement into a management role

  • Assignment to a new or existing store in another city
  • Execution of an annual growth plan with performance milestones

Step 6 – Long-term growth

Advance into a store manager or other leadership roles, with the opportunity to earn a six-figure salary within three years.
